J. C. Saddington Park, Port Credit, Ontario

The Village of Port Credit is home to a beautiful harbour area. On the west side of the harbour sits J. C. Saddington Park. Overlooking Lake Ontario, the winding paths also stretch over to the harbour where the Credit River flows into the lake.
A waterfront trail leading to the west is paved and home to joggers, cyclers, roller bladers and those just out for a stroll. The views of the Toronto Skyline to the East are incredible. Saddington Park also offers picnic areas, washroom facilities, fountains, ponds, children's playground and an abundance of wildlife.

This side of the harbour is much quieter but just as beautiful as the east side where you can walk the pier and enjoy dining at Snug Harbour restaurant. From the east side of the Harbour, you can walk along the Credit River under Lakeshore Road to the park and facilities on the North side of Lakeshore Road.

Halton Region - A Safe Place to Live

Canada's Most Dangerous Places to Live

Macleans magazine has just published their findings of Canada's most dangerous communities to live in.
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was named the most dangerous city, according to the magazine, followed by Winnipeg, Manitoba, Regina Sask., Prince George, B.C., Edmonton, Alberta, Chilliwack, B.C., Halifax, Nova Scotia, Vancouver, B.C., Surrey, B.C. & Victoria, B.C.

As Maclean's explains their Methodology

"Maclean's obtained annual crime data from Statistics Canada for municipal police services with the 100 largest populations in the nation. Using 2007 rates per 100,000 population for six crimes-homicide, sexual assault, aggravated assault, vehicle theft, robbery plus breaking and entering-Maclean's calculated the percentage difference from the national rate for each of the six crimes. In consultation with StatsCan, we gave each crime equal weights and standardized the rates to obtain an overall score that measured each area's percentage difference from the national rate. Data from Nunavut and the Northwest Territories are excluded from the provincial and territorial score calculations due to their extreme crime rate values, which are inconsistent with the distribution of the rest of the countryagazine notes "

For the second year in a row, Halton is the safest region in Canada and the safest area to live in the Greater Toronto Area according to the Macleans article. It is the fifth safest commuity. Out of 100 communities, with number 100 having the least crime Halton Region's rankings are: 66th for murder, 74 for motor vehicle theft, 76th for robbery, 81st for aggrevated assault, 92nd for break and enter and 97th for sexual assault.

The Halton Region Police Service oversees the City of Burlington, Town of Oakville, Town of Milton & Halton Hills with a population of 467,200 residents in 2008. Halton Region covers 232,000 acres including 25 km of shoreline on Lake Ontario.

Caledon, Ontario was deened to be the safest community while Oromocto, New Brunswick, Levis, Quebec, and Maskoutains Mrc, Quebec round out the top five. Toronto landed in the 29th spot for most dangerous but that is three spots safer than last year. Montreal bettered themselves from 19th most dangerous on last year's list to 24th this year. The Capital City, Ottawa ranked midway at 56th most dangerous.

Not only is Oakville a beautiful town and a wonderful community to raise a family, it is also a very safe environment to live in.
